Weardale Way Update (Section 5)
White Kirkley Footbridge
Sunday 10th May 2026 | This specific update for walkers concerns current access and navigation on Section 5 of the Weardale Way (Stanhope to White Kirkley) with particular regard to where it differs from what might be published elsewhere on this site or in our Weardale Way Pocket Guide.
I’m happy to be able to pass on the good news that this footbridge, over the Bollihope Burn near White Kirkley, has been repaired and reopened after its closure in September 2024. Likewise for the footbridge at Pye Close, further up the Bollihope Burn.
The closure encouraged me to inspect the Rights of Way options between High Bishopley and Low Bishopley so something came out of it. Repairs to both bridges appear to have been thorough and both look as if they’ll be around for some time to come. Happy Walking!
