Wolsingham to Witton-le-Wear
|24th March 2025 | This specific update for walkers concerns current access and navigation on Section 7 of the Weardale Way (Wolsingham to Witton-le-Wear) with particular regard to where it differs from what might be published elsewhere on this site or in our Weardale Way Pocket Guide.
Local conditions and heavy use quickly degrade infrastructure – particularly timber – causing impromptu and possibly persisting access and/or navigation issues. The chances of the trail changing in some way – short and long-term – is even more likely in urban areas. If your experience is different to what we’ve published here, you can help by leaving your insights in the comments.
Harperley Park Footbridge
Ten months after my last post about this footbridge – removed a couple of years ago due to storm damage – I’m happy to report that it has now been reinstated. This information has been very kindly provided by David, a fellow walker, who also send me the photograph.
It means that the most direct, waymarked route has now been reopened. It’s worth keeping in mind however, that the diversion, which is all on public footpaths, included a nice pub en route. Admittedly, it’s a bit longer but I’m keeping it as an option on the GPS file just in case further misfortune befalls the bridge – or if you fancy a swift one, mid-section.
So that’s the good news, hope it helps. If you have anything to add please feel free to do it in the comments. Happy Walking!
