Dere Street

A map of the Roman roads in BritainDere Street was an important supply route that ran from the Roman fortress at York to the Firth of Forth in Scotland. It enters County Durham across the River Tees at Piercebridge and crosses the River Tyne at Corbridge. The Roman forts of Morbium (Piercebridge), Vinovia (Binchester), Longovicium (Lanchester), Vindomora (Ebchester) and Coria (Corbridge) were built to protect it.
